IPTV Audio Out of Sync? How to Fix Lip-Sync Problems

When voices do not match lip movements, the delay usually comes from somewhere in your home setup rather than the stream: the player, the device's decoder, the TV's picture processing or a soundbar.

Before changing settings, check whether the problem affects one channel or all of them. A single channel out of sync points to that stream; every channel out of sync points to your equipment or settings.

Quick checks first

1. Change channel and come back. This restarts the stream and often fixes a temporary drift.
2. Restart the app. Sync drift can build up over long viewing sessions.
3. Try another channel. If only one channel is affected, report it to support.
4. Try another app or device. If the problem disappears, focus on the original app's settings.

Use the player's audio delay setting

Many IPTV players include an audio delay or audio sync option, usually found while a channel is playing, in the audio or playback menu. Adjust in small steps of 50 to 100 milliseconds until voices line up. If audio arrives before the picture, add delay; if audio lags behind, reduce it.

Switch the decoder

Software decoding can struggle on some devices, causing audio and video to drift apart. In the player's playback settings, make sure hardware decoding is selected. If a particular channel still drifts, try the opposite setting for comparison.

TV settings that add delay

Modern TVs process the picture to improve it, and heavy processing delays video slightly. The audio then arrives early. Try these:

• Reduce or turn off motion smoothing and noise reduction.
• Try a different picture mode, such as Standard or Filmmaker, and compare.
• Look for "AV sync", "lip sync" or "audio delay" in the TV's sound settings.

Soundbars and AV receivers

External audio devices add their own processing. Most soundbars have a lip-sync or AV sync setting in their app or menu. If you use HDMI ARC or eARC, enabling the TV's "auto lip sync" option can help, as can updating the soundbar's firmware.

Audio output format

On streaming devices, the audio format setting can affect sync. On Fire TV and Android TV, check the audio settings: if surround sound passthrough is causing issues, try PCM or stereo to see whether sync improves. If it does, you can decide which trade-off suits you.

Frame rate matching

When a device switches frame rate to match a stream, the TV briefly re-syncs. Occasionally audio can slip at the moment of the switch. Changing channel usually resets it. If it happens repeatedly, try turning frame rate matching off and compare.

Audio sync questions

Why is only one channel out of sync?

That stream may have a timing problem at source. Report it to your provider with the channel name and time.

Why does sync get worse the longer I watch?

Drift can build up over long sessions, especially with software decoding. Restarting the stream resets it.

Does Bluetooth audio cause delay?

Yes. Bluetooth headphones and speakers add noticeable delay. Use the player's audio delay setting to compensate.

Restart the stream, use the player's audio delay, keep hardware decoding on and check TV and soundbar lip-sync settings. Most sync problems are fixed within a few minutes.
