IPTV on Roku in the UK: What Works and What Doesn't

Roku devices are simple and reliable for mainstream streaming apps, but they are one of the more limited platforms for IPTV players. It is possible in some cases, but it is rarely the easiest option.

Roku runs its own operating system and only allows apps, which Roku calls channels, from its official Channel Store. The number of IPTV players there is small and changes over time. This guide sets out what is realistic so you do not waste an evening trying.

Why Roku is limited for IPTV

Unlike Android-based devices, Roku does not let you install apps from outside its store in normal use. Roku also reviews apps closely and has removed some IPTV players in the past. That keeps the platform tidy but narrows your choice.

Option 1: Check the Roku Channel Store

1. Open the Roku home screen and go to Streaming Channels, or search.
2. Search for "IPTV" or "M3U".
3. Read the channel description carefully. Check whether it supports M3U playlists or Xtream Codes, and look at recent reviews.
4. Add the channel and follow its instructions to enter your details.

Players on Roku are often more basic than on Android, with simpler guides and fewer settings.

Option 2: Screen mirroring

Many Roku devices support screen mirroring from Android phones and Windows PCs. You play IPTV in an app on your phone or computer and mirror the screen to the TV. Option 3: Add a different streaming device

If IPTV is a big part of your viewing, adding a Fire TV Stick or Google TV device to another HDMI port is usually the best answer. You keep Roku for your other apps and use the second device for IPTV. Switching between them takes one press of the TV's input button.
